The Union from its beginning

The Greek Care Homes Association (PEMFI) represents all legal for-profit and non-profit elderly care homes in Greece.
Our union was founded in 1974 as National Association of Entrepreneurs of Boarding Houses for Seniors 'Digenis' by Commission Decision 756/74 of the Court of Athens.

Until 1987, president was Mr. Gerasimos Yiakoumatos, from 1987 to 2005 Mrs. Helen Foussa and since the elections of 2005 a new Board emerged, with Mr. Stelios Prosalikas as chairman.
The new Administrative Council, since then, has dealt with the following issues:

1) The modernization of the logo and the name of the statute to Greek Care Homes Association (PEMFI)
2) The submission of proposals to the competent bodies for modernization of care homes and changes in the legislative framework
3) The participation of pension funds in the subsistence of the elderly (already two funds TSAI and TSMEDE participate)
4) The specialized training of the staff for the needs of the sector
5) The participation in European bodies, such as E.D.E.

Objectives of PEMFI

01
The development and cultivation among the members of the spirit of solidarity and relations of communication, cooperation and fellowship
02
The study, protection and promotion of the ethical, financial and professional interests of its members.
03
The study of the operating conditions of businesses and any activity and energy that can contribute to improving the services provided by the units.

President

Stelios Prosalikas
Iaso
From the position of the President of the Greek Care Homes Association, I have the pleasure to welcome you to the Association's new website.

PEMFI represents all the legal structures in our country that accommodate thousands of elderly people and provides work in corresponding positions of workers in them.

The presence of GCHA since 1974, as a recognized professional association, has helped and will help in the future the Greek state, as well as the European institutions, in drawing up a realistic policy around the provision of services in closed structures to the vulnerable group of the elderly, with the trends being explosively growing.

The Union, as a representative of the units, works hard to project its collective positions and proposals to the political leadership and institutions of the European Union. The demands of the Union are the modernization of the sector, the awareness of the Greek society of the importance of elderly care-homes and the contribution together with other necessary bodies in the management and dealing with the challenges of the elderly.

Our new website has been set up in order to serve both colleagues who wish to be informed about the key issues of the sector and the elder people, as well as the public audience in their effort to find a unit that meets their requirements. Our goal is a timely, dynamic and up-to-date website, which will only be achieved through an interactive way of information and collaboration, in which we hope to find you allies.

Unity is our strongest tool against the difficulties of the times.
TOGETHER, we can achieve a lot and I hope that this website will be the starting point for a new era of our cooperation.

Sincerely,

Stelios Prosalikas
President of PEMFI
